2009 INTERCOLLEGE LARNACA GRADUATION SPEECH

Distinguished guests, parents, faculty, ladies and gentlemen, fellow graduates of 2009.

On behalf of tonight’s graduates and Intercollege, I extend to you all, a warm welcome to the “graduation ceremony of 2009”, hosted for the first time at the Intercollege Larnaca Campus. I feel so honored to be addressing you all tonight on this special occasion.

I call this a special moment for us, because for many years students never had the opportunity to celebrate their achievements on Intercollege premises. Most of us have witnessed the remarkable transition our college went through and we feel proud to have been part of this process. Intercollege has taken a leap forward and will undoubtedly take even further steps to establish itself as a major center of tertiary education in this region. I am positive it will succeed.

Dear fellow graduates, some say that our educational journey has come to an end, but in reality the learning process is a life long experience. If we look back and reflect on our studies here, we will realize that we are all prepared enough for our next step, whatever that may be. Whether we pursue further studies abroad or enter the working world, we must all apply the knowledge gained at Intercollege, remember our lecturers’ advice and continue adding to our knowledge and experience.

What we experienced at Intercollege is a microcosm of what is happening in the real world. The unique multi-cultural environment here has taught us to respect and accept the diversity of cultures, attitudes and behaviors and to co-exist peacefully.

Fellow graduates, we must also acknowledge the hard efforts of our parents and lecturers who helped us fulfill our dreams and ambitions. Now it is our turn to continue their endeavors and try to overcome any obstacles and hardships which may follow. Positive thinking, proactive ideas and self-commitment will help us accomplish our goals.

So let us be the agents of change in this world, at a time when it is gripped by the love of money. We must prove that it is the love, sincerity and cooperation between fellow human beings that can bring true success. As Albert Einstein once stated: “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.” And the wisest man that ever existed Jesus Christ said: "Do to others what you would like them do to you".

TIME

While seating now in front of the computer and writing this, am checking the time. You know why? There is time for everything. This is the only time to write what am writing now, then there will be time to do something else. By the way, have to go and pick up my daugther from school. It's very important not to use this time for something else! gotta go, you will hear from me next time, God willing.
